Team News: Arsenal boss offers update on Jack Wilshere ahead of Brighton trip
Arsene Wenger has provided a team news update ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Brighton on Sunday including the latest on the fitness of Jack Wilshere.
We’ve just come off the back of consecutive 3-0 defeats to Manchester City over the past six days so Wenger has hinted he may need to freshen things up on Sunday after two gruelling matches.
Wilshere missed the latest drubbing at the Emirates last night after picking up a minor groin problem and the midfielder will not take part in full training today.
However, Wenger says Jack will be back in contention to face Brighton if he’s able to take part in training on Saturday after undergoing further treatment on the injury.
The boss told Arsenal.com:
on the effects of playing two games in quick succession…
I don’t know, we will have to analyse that medically and see if I need to rest some players or not. I have until Sunday to make that decision, but of course we gave a lot [in the Carabao Cup final] and on Thursday night. I have to decide who I rest and who I keep going.on Jack Wilshere…
If he can practice tomorrow, then he will be in contention. He will not practice today, he will have treatment and then a test tomorrow.
I think we missed Wilshere’s quality on the ball against City last night so hopefully he’s able to pass his fitness test as we desperately need to get back to winning ways on Sunday.
