Arsenal drawn to face Serie A giants in last-16 of the Europa League
Arsenal have been drawn to face AC Milan in the last-16 of the Europa League after the draw took place this lunchtime.
We put our name in the hat for today’s draw with a 4-2 aggregate win over Ostersunds but in typical Arsenal fashion we made hard work of it.
A 3-0 victory in Sweden last week was supposed to have pretty-much put the tie to bed but another disastrous performance last night led to a shock 2-1 defeat.
We still progressed on aggregate and have now been drawn to face Serie A giants AC Milan in the last-16 after they beat Ludogorets in the last phase.
It’s a tough draw and the display last night shows us once again that this squad is miles away from being a contender for major trophies so it’s difficult to be too confident.
Let’s hope Wenger goes with our strongest eleven from now on as our chances of finishing in the top four in the Premier League are slim following our defeat to Tottenham – which has left us eight points adrift.
Winning the Europa League is now our best chance of getting back in the Champions League next season but we’ll have to navigate past Milan before we can even start to think about winning the competition.
We’ll play the first leg in Milan on March 8th before the return leg at the Emirates on the 22nd.
