[Player Ratings] Ostensunds 0-3 Arsenal: Mkhitaryan shines but Welbeck flops

By on February 15, 2018

Arsenal all-but booked their place in the next round of the Europa League after beating Ostensunds 3-0 this evening.

Nacho Monreal opened the scoring with a poachers finish before an own goal made it 2-0 inside the opening half hour. Mesut Ozil added to our advantage after the break before David Ospina maintained the clean sheet with a late penalty save.

Here are my ratings:

Ospina  7/10 | Made a smart save to keep it at 2-0 midway through the first half and saved a last minute penalty.

Bellerin  6.5/10 | Bombed forward at every opportunity and was heavily involved in the final third but gave away a needless late penalty.

Chambers  5.5/10 | A couple of shaky moments. Not sure why he was picked ahead of Holding.

Mustafi  6/10 | A little fortunate to not give a penalty away shortly before our third goal but was otherwise solid.

Monreal  7/10 | On hand to open the scoring with another goal and always a threat down the left.

Elneny  6.5/10 | Did the simple things well enough and kept the ball moving from defence to attack.

Maitland-Niles  6.5/10 | Tidy performance but I was a little surprised he played with so much freedom. I would have liked him to sit in front of the defence more but that was difficult alongside Elneny.

Iwobi  6/10 | A decent outing but his final ball was still lacking and was frustrating at times.

Ozil  7/10 | Barely got out of first gear but still got himself on the scoresheet. Easy nights work.

Mkhitaryan  7/10 | Set-up the second goal with a fine cross and grabbed his second assist of the game with a lovely ball for Ozil.

Welbeck  5/10 | Failed to grasp his opportunity. He looked a little rusty as his touch was poor and wasn’t really a goal threat.

Subs:

Kolasinac  5/10 | Saw out the final 15 minutes.

Nketiah, Nelson  N/A | Only on for a few minutes at the end.

So a relatively straightforward victory that puts one foot in the next phase so we can rest our key men for the second leg next week ahead of the Carabao Cup final.

You and your silly claim that Ozil has another “gear.” Again Spur, he had no gear at all.
