According to the Mirror, Alexis Sanchez has travelled to Manchester to undergo his medical after Arsenal made a breakthrough in talks with Henrikh Mkhitaryan late on Friday night.

We’ve all been patiently waiting for Arsenal and Mkhitaryan to thrash out a deal as the Armenian international wages and his agents fee have been holding up this proposed swap deal all week.

Sanchez quickly found an agreement with United after they threw crazy money at him. Up to £500,000-a-week before tax if you believe some corners of the media.

So it was all down to Arsenal agreeing terms over Mkhitaryan and reports have also suggested that we’ve been haggling with United over a cash payment as well as the playmaker in exchange for Sanchez.

The two deals weren’t completed in time for the players to feature for their new clubs this weekend and Arsene Wenger surprisingly included Sanchez in a 19-man squad for our clash with Crystal Palace today.

Sanchez travelled with the rest of the squad to the team hotel last night after Danny Welbeck was ruled out through injury and he was on stand-by to be named on the bench.

However, the Mirror claim that Alexis got a phone-call at around 11pm to inform him there had been a breakthrough in our talks with Mkhitaryan and he quickly said his goodbyes to team mates and club staff.

The newspaper says Sanchez headed for Manchester where he’s due to undergo his medical today with Mkhitaryan also expected to finalise his switch to Arsenal this weekend.

Interestingly, the Mirror says Arsenal and United are prepared to complete the transfers as two separate deals as valuation and contract issues have meant it’s been virtually impossible to do a straight swap.

Either way, it seems we’re now coming to the final stages of this saga. Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio also claims Mkhitaryan reached an agreement with Arsenal yesterday and the deals are on the verge of completion so we could even hear something concrete later today.
