Chief due in London to finalise terms as Arsenal close-in on £53m signing – report
According to reports in Germany via the Daily Mail, Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc is due to arrive in London tomorrow to finalise Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s £53m move to Arsenal.
There has been a frenzy of speculation surrounding Aubameyang’s potential move to the Emirates this week after he was axed from the Dortmund squad for disciplinary reasons last weekend.
Having been slapped with his third internal suspension in just 15 months, the striker was reportedly involved in a heated exchange with Dortmund chiefs and is now desperate to leave the club.
Widespread reports in recent days have suggested that Arsenal are closing-in on a deal with Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claiming yesterday that we’ve agreed terms over a contract worth £8.8m-per-season.
Arsene Wenger then angered Dortmund bosses after saying Aubameyang would fit in well at the Emirates during his press conference on Thursday but it seems we’ve managed to ease tensions with the German outfit.
That’s because the Daily Mail are now citing reports from German publication WA that claim Dortmund director Michael Zorc is due to fly to London on Saturday to finalise terms with Arsenal over a £53m deal.
There is still a chance that Olivier Giroud could be included in any deal as the French international needs regular first team football ahead of the World Cup and he’d provide Dortmund with be a direct replacement for Aubameyang.
The Gabon international was once again axed from the Dortmund squad for their game with Hertha Berlin tonight with boss Peter Stoger admitting his head has been turned by talk of a move to Arsenal.
We’ll have to wait and see whether these reports are accurate as Dortmund are still pleading ignorance in public and saying that no talks have taken place with Arsenal – despite the widespread acceptance in the media that they have.
However, I’d love to see Aubameyang come to Arsenal as he’s a top class striker who’s capable of scoring 30+ goals a season and I think he’d be a sensational addition to the squad.
