Arsenal star suffers injury setback + Ramsey update
Arsenal star Nacho Monreal is going to be out for longer than expected but Aaron Ramsey is targetting a return against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup, according to injury expert Ben Dinnery.
Monreal was forced off at half-time during our 3-3 draw with Liverpool at the Emirates on the 22nd December after suffering an ankle injury.
The Spanish defender was initially ruled out for around 10 days meaning he was expected to be back in contention for the FA Cup clash with Nottingham Forest this weekend.
However, Arsene Wenger has revealed to reporters that Monreal has suffered a setback in his recovery and has been ruled out for at least another two weeks.
It means Nacho will now miss tonight’s clash with Chelsea along with games against Forest, Chelsea [League Cup] and Bournemouth but it remains to be seen if he’ll be fit to Crystal Palace on January 20th.
There is some better news regarding Ramsey as the midfielder is closing-in on his return from a hamstring injury that’s kept him out since the draw at Southampton last month.
The Welshman was expected to be back at the start of January and is now aiming to play in the first leg of our Carabao Cup semi-final with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge next week.
Injury expert Ben Dinnery tweeted:
Nacho Monreal [ankle] will be out for a little longer than initially thought. "He should be a couple of weeks." Meanwhile, Aaron Ramsey [hamstring] is targeting a return against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup. #AFC

It’s a big blow to lose Monreal for another few weeks as Sead Kolasinac is also out for a fortnight with an ankle injury so we have limited options on the left side of defence.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles is expected to deputise against Chelsea tonight but Wenger may opt to give another youngster a chance in the FA Cup clash at the weekend.
