Mesut Ozil has sent a message to Arsenal fans on Twitter thanking them for their support despite our hugely frustrating 3-1 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday evening.

Shocking defensive errors from Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi gifted United an early two-goal advantage and it gave us an absolute mountain to climb.

In credit to the Arsenal players, we lifted ourselves up from the early blows to dominate United and we should have been level before the break had it not been for poor finishing, excellent goalkeeping and a huge amount of luck for the visitors.

We got the goal our performance deserved when Alexandre Lacazette made it 2-1 shortly after half time but a superb double save from David De Gea keep the visitors ahead.

It turned out to be a turning point as United went up the other end and made it 3-1 in the 63rd minute thanks to yet more poor defending from Koscielny.

We still had further chances to get back in the game as we had 33 shots on goal, forced De Gea in to an incredible 14 saves and should have had two stonewall penalties during the closing stages but it ended 3-1.

Ozil has now taken to Twitter to express his frustration as the playmaker says that he’s still ‘very unhappy’ about the result but feels we wasted too many chances and the third goal killed us.

The German playmaker has sent a message of thanks to the supporters for staying behind the team and I must say the fans were superb in the Emirates last night.

It’s hard to argue with Mesut’s summary as although we certainly created enough to have taken something from the game, we simply can not defend so badly and expect to beat teams like United.
