[Player Ratings] Arsenal 0-0 Red Star: Coquelin woeful for sloppy Gunners

By on November 2, 2017

Arsenal’s B team were held to a frustratingly poor 0-0 draw by Red Star Belgrade this evening but we still secured qualification to the knockout stages of the Europa League.

Here are my ratings:

Macey  7.5/10 | Superb fingertip save to keep it at 0-0 just before half-time and made a couple of other solid saves. Kicking was a bit dodgy though.

Debuchy  6.5/10 | Still looks a little rusty but didn’t really put a foot wrong.

Elneny  6.5/10 | Not a fan of him at centre-back but he gave his all. Solid distribution from the back too.

Holding  6.5/10 | A relatively comfortable evening for the youngster.

Nelson  6/10 | A few dangerous moments going forward but still doesn’t like the defensive part. Should be played further up the field.

Coquelin  4/10 | A woeful performance in the first half. He was literally all over the place. Slightly better after the break.

Willock  6.5/10 | An assured display by the youngster considering he had to play alongside Coquelin. Some nice touches.

Maitland-Niles  6/10 | Battled well but would prefer to see him in the defensive central role ahead of Coquelin.

Wilshere  7/10 | Saw a cheeky chip cleared off the line midway through the second half and showed a few nice touches.

Walcott  6.5/10 | Worked hard to try and make things happen but wasn’t his night.

Giroud  6/10 | Missed a couple of decent first half chances. Put himself about up top but the ball just wouldn’t drop for him.

Subs:

Nketiah  6/10 | Couldn’t recreate his League Cup heroics but a lively cameo nonetheless.

We were well below par, just as this team was against Norwich least week. I don’t think we’re getting the best out of the players as they aren’t playing in their best positions. Elneny at centre-back, Nelson and Maitland-Niles in the wing-back positions, Wilshere in attack…..it’s just not working.

Still, we’re through to the knockout stages. Let’s hope Wenger tries something different in our final two group games.
