Arsene Wenger confirms injury boost but duo still out injured
Arsene Wenger has been speaking at his pre-match press conference this afternoon ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Swansea City on Saturday.
The boss offered his thoughts on a variety of topics, including today’s feisty AGM, but he also provided a team news update with the latest on our injured players.
Calum Chambers has endured an injury-plagued start to the new season with the defender forced off during his first start of the campaign – which was against Doncaster Rovers on September 20 – with a recurrence of a hip problem.
However, it seems Chambers is now close to being available for selection as Wenger says the centre-back is now in full training again so he could be pushing for a place in the squad soon.
Calum’s return to fitness will come as a boost as Shkodran Mustafi remains on the sidelines with a hamstring injury that he sustained while away with Germany during the last international break.
Danny Welbeck is also still out as the striker is working his way back from a groin injury that he picked up during the closing stages of our defeat at Watford two weeks ago.
However, Wenger has revealed that David Ospina could be available for next weeks Europa League clash with Red Star Belgrade after making a swift recovery from a groin problem.
Here is what the boss had to say:
Wenger presser now. "Squad that was available v Everton is again. Only players not completely back are Mustafi, Welbeck."
