Wenger boost: Want-away £36m target confirms he’d join Arsenal
According to a report in the Metro, Jean-Michael Seri has handed Arsene Wenger a boost after name-dropping Arsenal as one of the clubs he’d like to join this summer.
Seri emerged as a prime target for Arsenal earlier in the summer after enjoying an excellent season in France last year with his 7 goals and 9 assists helping Lyon finish third in Ligue 1.
It looked like we’d missed out as the Ivory Coast international was all-set for a move to Barcelona but the Catalans dramatically pulled the plug on the deal at the last minute.
Seri expressed his disappointment at his dream move to the Nou Camp falling through but the 26-year-old is still desperate to secure a move to a ‘big European club’ before the transfer window closes.
And in a boost to Wenger, the midfielder has named Arsenal as one of the teams he’d like to join if we triggered his £36m buyout clause – although it looks like he’s keeping his options open as he also names four other clubs.
Seri is quoted as saying by the Metro:
‘I want to be optimistic and think that there are still options. Let the two clubs talk quietly again and come to an agreement. We are not talking about any club, where you are going to sign for money.
‘I want to sign for a big European clubs, like Juventus, PSG, Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool.”
Some suggested that Seri wouldn’t join Arsenal due to our lack of Champions League football but it looks like that wouldn’t stop the midfielder so I think we should be all over this deal.

We desperately need a mobile central midfielder as the Xhaka-Ramsey pairing in the middle of the park is a huge weakness in this team and Seri would be a superb addition to the squad.
He’s available at a very reasonable price so I pray Wenger is ready to renew his interest over the next couple of days.
