Man City offer Arsenal Sterling plus cash in exchange for Sanchez
According to the Mirror, Manchester City have offered Arsenal Raheem Sterling plus cash in exchange for the signature of Alexis Sanchez.
City have been linked with Sanchez all summer as he’s got one year left on his contract at the Emirates and has made it clear he won’t be signing an extension.
Arsene Wenger has insisted that the club won’t cash-in and have made the decision to risk seeing the Chilean international walk away for nothing in 12 months time.
However, it appears that resolve has now been severely tested as the Mirror claim City have opened formal talks where they offered Arsenal Sterling as well as an unspecified amount of money in exchange for Sanchez.
Sterling joined City in a controversial £44m deal from Liverpool two years ago and has started this season well having scored two goals in three games so far.
The England international is capable of playing on either wing so he could be viewed as a direct replacement for Alexis but it remains to be seen whether the player is interested in moving to Arsenal.
I’ve said all summer that we should sell any of the players that don’t sign new deals and would cash-in on Sanchez if we were offered anything above £60m. However, this Sterling-plus-cash deal could be tempting as he’s a top young player who still has his best years ahead of him.
My only concern is, is Sterling the type of player we need right now? His attitude has been questioned throughout his career and we need players who are going to dig in and fight for the shirt. We need leaders. And I don’t think Sterling fits that mold.
He’s got bags of talent but I’m not convinced he’s the type of character we should be bringing to the club at this particular time. Reject the offer, demand £60m-£70m and use it to buy Lemar or Draxler.
