Arsenal ace tells Wenger he won’t sign new contract after rejecting £6.5m-a-year deal
According to John Cross at the Mirror, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has informed Arsene Wenger during face-to-face talks that he won’t be signing a new contract with Arsenal.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has just one year remaining on his current deal at the Emirates and has so far rejected our attempts to tie him down to an extension.
The Mirror claim the 24-year-old has already snubbed two formal contract offers with the latest one worth a whopping £125,000-a-week – which equates to £6.5m-per-season.
It had been reported in the media yesterday that Oxlade-Chamberlain was due to hold face-to-face talks with Wenger about his future as the boss looked to try and persuade the midfielder to commit himself to the club.
However, it seems that meeting didn’t go too well as the Mirror says Oxlade-Chamberlain has informed Wenger he has no intention of signing a new deal and his decision isn’t based on money.
The newspaper says Arsenal are expected to hold further talks with the midfielder this week and offer a third deal but it seems pointless if the player has already made up his mind.
Wenger has clearly been trying to show Oxlade-Chamberlain that he’s part of his plans as he’s started our three games so far this season – although he’s been shoehorned in to the side at wing-back.
That tactic clearly hasn’t worked so far and if he stands firm and refuses to sign a new deal this week, then I think we should cut our loses and sell to the highest bidder before the window closes.
The England international has attracted plenty of interest with the Mirror claiming that Chelsea are ready to offer £35m and I’d rather see him sold than leave on a free in 12 months time.

Chamberlain hasn’t progressed and is frustrating to watch as he does so many things right only to waste it all with his final ball or decision making. He’s never going to be an important first team player, so why are we making so much fuss about hanging on to him?
If he honestly won’t sign a deal worth £125,000-a-week, then we’d be mad to keep him beyond this summer. Especially if the club are also going to lose Sanchez and Ozil for nothing in 12 months.
