Ox replacement? Arsenal to launch late bid to sign Tottenham target
According to the Express, Arsenal are ready to launch a late bid to beat Tottenham to the signing of Everton midfielder Ross Barkley during the closing stages of the window.
Arsene Wenger has only brought in Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac so far this summer but he’s confirmed he’s on the look-out for further additions before the window closes.
Another midfielder could be on the cards as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is being tipped for a move – despite Wenger’s insistence he’ll stay even if he doesn’t sign a new contract.
Santi Cazorla is also still working his way back to full fitness after missing 10 months with an Achilles injury and the 32-year-old is unlikely to be offered a new contract meaning a long-term replacement is needed.
The Express are citing a report from Transfer Market Web that claims Arsenal have identified Barkley as a key target and are ready to launch a late move to try and sign the Everton midfielder before the end of the month.
Barkley is expected to leave Goodison Park as he has just one year remaining on his contract and has made it clear he won’t sign an extension so Ronald Koeman is ready to cash-in.
The 23-year-old has been strongly linked with Tottenham in recent months but they’ve struggled to get a deal agreed with the Toffees and the Express suggest Arsenal are now hoping to gazump our rivals.
There are certainly parallels between Oxlade-Chamberlain and Barkley as they are the same age and have yet to truly fulfill their potential but it’s going to be interesting to see how things pan out over the coming days.
I’d love Arsenal to agree a new deal with The Ox but if he doesn’t commit himself to the club before the window closes then I’d personally cash-in and Barkley would be an exciting replacement.
