Arsenal boss confirms triple injury boost ahead of Stoke + Sanchez update
Arsene Wenger has been providing his weekly team news update at his press conference this morning ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Stoke City on Saturday evening.
The boss has confirmed a triple injury boost with the news that Per Mertesacker, Shkodran Mustafi and Francis Coquelin are all fit and available for selection this weekend.
Mertesacker missed our opening weekend win over Leicester City after suffering a nasty cut above his eye during the Community Shield victory over Chelsea earlier this month but the centre-back will be in the squad against Stoke.
Coquelin has been out since injuring his ankle in the Emirates Cup but he came through a run-out with the under-23’s on Monday unscathed so will be back in contention for the first team this weekend.
Mustafi was an unused substitute against Leicester as he wasn’t considered fit having returned to pre-season late following his exploits with Germany this summer but the defender could start at the Britannia.
Wenger also gave the latest on Alexis Sanchez and revealed that the Chilean international is unlikely to recover from his abdominal injury in time to face Stoke but he should be ready to take on Liverpool later this month.
The boss told reporters:
At Colney. Wenger says Mertesacker back, Sanchez not likely to be ready but should be fit to face Liverpool. Mustafi & Coquelin fit.

So the squad is in decent shape heading to Stoke as we look to make it two wins from two games after our thrilling comeback win over Leicester on Friday night.
