Arsenal ready to pay £72m to sign La Liga attacker

By on August 13, 2017

According to a report by Football London, Arsenal are eyeing a sensational swoop on Real Madrid with Arsene Wenger ready to meet Marco Asensio’s £72m release clause.

The 21-year-old has developed in to one of the most highly-rated young attackers in world football since joining Madrid from Mallorca three years ago for just under £3m.

However, Asensio has struggled to nail down a regular place in Zinedine Zidane’s starting eleven as he was handed just 11 La Liga starts last season with several players ahead of him in the pecking order.

He’s been promised more action this year but it might not be enough to keep him happy, especially with the World Cup coming up next summer, and it seems Wenger is hoping to take advantage.

Football London are citing a report from Spanish outlet Diario Gol that claims Arsenal are lining-up a stunning move for Asensio and are ready to trigger his £72m release clause.

Despite his lack of regular football last season, the attacker still chipped in with 10 goals across all competitions and he’s one of the most gifted young footballers in Europe right now so obviously he’d be a superb signing.

Arsene has made no secret of his desire to bring in more signings before the end of the month and he could be eyeing Asensio as an alternative to Thomas Lemar as we’re struggling to agree terms with Monaco.

Football London claim that Asensio is aware of the interest being shown in him and is demanding showdown talks with Madrid to discuss his future next week – although his priority is to remain at the Bernabeu and he’s looking to secure an improved contract.

Even if the player does decide to leave we aren’t the only club showing a keen interest as the report indicates that Barcelona and Man City are among a host of top clubs also tracking the attacker.

I’d love to see Asensio come to Arsenal and it’s good to read that we’re ambitious enough to go for players like him but realistically he’s highly unlikely to end up at the Emirates this summer.
