It looks like Arsenal have been handed a major boost as Chilean outlet FortinMapocho claim Chelsea and Manchester City have cooled their interest in signing Alexis Sanchez.

As you’ll all know by now, Sanchez’s future at the Emirates is in serious doubt as he’s got just one year remaining on his current contract and we’ve so far been unable to tie him down to an extension.

The 28-year-old is reportedly demanding up to £400,000-a-week while he also has concerns over our competitiveness on the pitch having missed out on the top four for the first time in 20 years.

Alexis has attracted interest from a whole host of top European clubs with the likes of Bayern Munich, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Man City all linked this summer.

Bayern refused to break their wage structure to pay what Alexis wanted and turned their attention to signing James Rodriguez while Juve have also failed to formalise their interest due to Sanchez’s wage demands.

City have emerged as the most likely destination in recent weeks with some reports suggesting Alexis has his heart set on linking up with Pep Guardiola again at the Etihad.

However, Arsenal have always insisted we wouldn’t sell to a domestic rival, even if Sanchez doesn’t sign a new deal, and FortinMapocho claim City have now grown tired of waiting around.

The Chilean outlet say Guardiola doesn’t want to waste any more time waiting for the Sanchez situation to be resolved and is ready to move on to other targets.

The report also states that while Antonio Conte was keen to take Sanchez to Stamford Bridge as a replacement for Diego Costa, no progress has been made so the Blues have also cooled their interest in the Arsenal star.

This is obviously excellent news as it means Alexis’s options are diminishing by the day and it seems our stance of refusing to even entertain selling to a rival is paying off.

Things can change quickly but as it stand unless the likes of Inter or AC Milan come in, Sanchez’s only serious option would be to join PSG but it remains to be seen whether he’ll be interested in playing in France.

Let’s pray this report is accurate as if City and Chelsea have backed off then Arsenal should have a great chance of persuading Alexis to sign a new contract at the Emirates.
