Wenger speaks out on Mbappe amid rumours of £121m Arsenal bid

By on June 6, 2017

According to Football London, Arsene Wenger has been speaking about Kylian Mbappe amid speculation Arsenal are set to table an improved £121m offer for the Monaco striker.

Mbappe has been the hot topic in recent days after L’Equipe reported late last week that Arsenal had seen an opening £87m bid rejected by Monaco for the teen sensation.

The likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United and Manchester City have also reportedly made their interest known with sizeable offers so the race to sign the 18-year-old is intensifying.

But it seems Wenger is determined to land Mbappe as Football London are citing a report coming from L’Equipe today that claims Arsenal are lining-up a renewed offer worth a whopping £121m.

Madrid remain favourites to sign the French international but Wenger is doing his best to convince the starlet that his development would be better off at Arsenal where he wouldn’t be battling with Ronaldo, Bale, Benzema and Morata for playing time.

French manager Didier Deschamps has also warned Mbappe not to join a club where he would end up sitting on the bench and Wenger has now spoken out to agree with his compatriot.

The Arsenal boss says Mbappe should end up at a club where he will play regularly and suggested that nobody should spend around £100m on a player who will just sit in the stands.

When asked about Mbappe, Wenger is quoted by Football London as telling BeIN Sports:

“Where do you think he might finish? Somewhere where he has a good chance to play and is sure to play. That is why I think Deschamps made that statement.

“He thinks that he needs to play but I would say as well on the other hand that the boy has made enough impression to be basically sure a club who spends a 100 million for you is basically to make at the start at least the red carpet.

“Nobody will buy a player for 100 million and say, Come on, sit in the stands.”

Wenger is obviously doing his best to persuade Mbappe to snub the likes of Madrid and opt for regular football at Arsenal as it will be a lot easier to start ahead of Giroud than the likes of Ronaldo, Benzema or Bale.

It’s going to be fascinating to see where Mbappe ends up but needless-to-say I’d love to see him join Arsenal as he’s one of the most exciting young talents in world football.

The teenager has just come off the back of a breakthrough campaign that saw him score 26 goals and provide a further 14 assists to help fire Monaco to the Ligue 1 title and his potential is endless, so fingers crossed Wenger’s charm offensive works!
