Wenger targets £25m star & confident of signing Bundesliga ace
According to the Mirror, Arsene Wenger has identified Thomas Lemar as his top attacking midfield target and is ready to make his move for the £25m-rated Monaco star while he’s also confident of landing Sead Kolasinac.
Wenger is ready to defy a growing number of disgruntled fans and sign a new deal before overseeing a huge overhaul of his squad following another failed challenge for major honours.
With the future’s of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil in serious doubt, the boss is already identifying potential replacements and it seems his search has led him across the channel.
The Mirror claim that Wenger is a huge admirer of Monaco star Thomas Lemar and is now ready to formalise his interest having tracked the winger for several years.
Lemar has been in excellent form this season to help Monaco reach the last four in the Champions League and stay on course to winning the Ligue 1 title having scored 14 goals and provided 13 assists.
That kind of form has apparently caught Wenger’s eye and the newspaper says we’re now lining-up a deal for the 21-year-old which could set us back in the region of £25m – which I actually think sounds like a bargain.
Lemar obviously isn’t ready to replace a player like Sanchez just yet but he’d still be a huge asset to the squad if we could lure him to the Emirates so I hope we can get a deal agreed.
We’re also looking to strengthen at the back and the Mirror claim Wenger remains confident of winning the race to sign Schalke left-back Sead Kolasinac this summer.
The Bosnian international is out-of-contract next month and we’ve reportedly held extensive talks with his agents, while there have also been reports that he’s already undergone a medical after agreeing personal terms.
We’ll have to wait and see how much truth there is behind those reports but Kolasinac would also be a superb addition to the squad and he’d be the perfect fit in the left wing-back role in our new 3-4-2-1 formation.
