Quartet recalled in 3-4-3: My Arsenal starting XI vs Man Utd
Arsenal know anything but a win over Manchester United at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon will all-but end our fading hopes of finishing in the top four.
This is the team I’d like to see Arsene Wenger go with….
Goalkeeper: Cech
Cech produced a superb display against Tottenham last weekend and it could easily have been 5-0 if it weren’t for our in-form number one. Ospina is back in contention after recovering from injury but no decision here. Cech starts.
Defence: Mustafi, Koscielny, Holding
I have no idea why Wenger has dropped Holding in recent games as he was playing very well in the new-look back three so I’d like to see him recalled and given another chance at the back.
Mustafi is available again after recovering from a thigh injury and while Gabriel was starting to find a bit of form, he showed us why he can’t be relied upon after stupidly giving away a penalty against Spurs.
Obviously Koscielny should start so I’d play him in the middle with Mustafi on the right and Holding on the left.
Midfield: Bellerin, Xhaka, The Ox, Monreal
Oxlade-Chamberlain put in another positive display in the right wing-back role last weekend but I still think Bellerin is the more natural long-term solution so I’d like to see him start on Sunday.
I’d then move The Ox in to a more central position as we seem to have forgotten he was also playing extremely well in midfield not so long ago and he offers more than Ramsey in my opinion.
Xhaka is a doubt after picking up a calf problem against Tottenham but Wenger says there is still a chance he could be passed fit. If he’s ruled out, no doubt Wenger will go with Coquelin but I’d prefer to see Elneny come in over the Frenchman.
Gibbs was disappointing last weekend and he didn’t really take his chance so I think Monreal should be restored in the left wing-back role.
Attack: Ozil, Sanchez, Welbeck
Once again, Giroud was useless up front against Spurs so we desperately need Wenger to go with Welbeck through the middle on Sunday. His pace and movement will cause United’s defence far more problems than Giroud.
Sanchez had a woeful game against Spurs and I’ve not seen him give the ball away so much in my life. Obviously he won’t be dropped but we need a lot more from our star man.
Ozil came under fire for his performance at White Hart Lane but he was nowhere near our worst player so he should try to ignore the criticism. Hopefully he can use it as a motivator but I have a feeling we’ll see Mesut put in a fine display on Sunday.
This would be my line-up:
