Arsenal in battle to sign £10m international defender

By on May 5, 2017

According to the Daily Star, Arsenal are in a battle with Liverpool and Newcastle to sign Celtic’s highly-rated full-back Kieran Tierney this summer.

Despite growing pressure form the fans for him to walk away when his contract expires in June, it looks increasingly likely that Arsene Wenger is going to extend his stay and oversee a huge overhaul of his squad.

Left-back is a particular area of concern with Nacho Monreal struggling to replicate the form he showed last season while Kieran Gibbs has failed to hold down a regular place.

Sead Kolasinac has been strongly tipped to come in as our new first choice left-back next season but with both Monreal and Gibbs linked with moves away, Tierney has also been linked with a move to the Emirates.

The 19-year-old has been with Celtic his entire career and has enjoyed a superb campaign north of the border after establishing himself as Brendan Rodgers’ first choice left-back.

Wenger has reportedly got his eye on Tierney with the Daily Mail reporting last month that it would take around £10m to prise him away from Celtic Park this summer.

However, it looks like we’ll face some stiff competition as the Daily Star claim that Newcastle and Liverpool are also in the race for the Scottish international’s signature.

Liverpool desperately need a new left-back as Jurgen Klopp has been forced to deploy James Milner in defence while Newcastle are set for a busy summer after securing promotion to the Premier League.

Both clubs may be able to offer Tierney more regular first team football as he’d probably be behind Kolasinac is he opts to join Arsenal, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we ended up missing out on the teenager’s signature.
