[Ratings] Arsenal 1-0 Leicester: Xhaka shines for sloppy Gunners

By on April 26, 2017

Arsenal needed a late own goal to secure a 1-0 victory over Leicester City at the Emirates this evening.

Here are my ratings:

Čech  7/10 | Great save to deny Mahrez at 0-0 midway through the first half. Didn’t put a foot wrong.

Gabriel  7/10 | Great block to deny Okazaki at 0-0. Another impressive performance from the rejuvenated Brazilian.

Koscielny  7/10 | Marshalled the defence well and helped secure a much-needed clean sheet. Worrying moment when he went down with a knee problem but was able to continue.

Monreal  7/10 | It was his shot which took a deflection off Huth and in to the net to break the deadlock. Solid display all round.

Bellerín  6.5/10 | Final ball in the attacking third was very poor. Needs to improve that part of his game.

Coquelin  5/10 | A passenger in midfield. No idea why he was picked ahead of Elneny but it didn’t work.

Xhaka  8/10 | Bossed the game. Controlled the tempo with his excellent passing range and was clearly the best player on the pitch. Got his compulsory booking late on.

Gibbs  6/10 | Looked a little rusty, which is understandable given the lack of football he’s played.

Sánchez  5/10 | Gave away possession countless times and looked frustrated playing through the middle. Hit the bar with a powerful drive at the end of the first half and was more involved when he moved out to the left but poor overall.

Özil  6/10 | Struggled to get in the game in the first half but much better after the break and we saw some nice passes from him. Nowhere near his best though, like his team mates.

Walcott  5/10 | Woeful performance. Got in to one-v-one opportunities only to pass backwards. No influence on the game at all other than a half chance in the first half.

Subs:

Welbeck  6/10 | Made a decent impact off the bench. Should have started.

Ramsey  5/10 | Wasteful in a couple of situations.

Giroud  6/10 | Offered a presence through the middle that we lacked.

We were way below our best and struggled to get out of second gear but it was a vital win and keeps alive our hopes of finishing in the top four. Spurs at the Lane up next…..
