[Player Ratings] Sutton 0-2 Arsenal: Perez shines, Iwobi woeful

By on February 20, 2017

Arsenal eased in to the quarter finals of the FA Cup thanks to a 2-0 victory over Sutton United this evening.

In truth, we coasted the entire game and barely got out of first gear. The pitch certainly didn’t help the players looked uninterested most of the time.

We opened the scoring midway through the first half through Lucas Perez before Theo Walcott got his 100th for the club with a clinical finish early in the second half.

But the overall performance was uninspiring and we’ll have to play a lot better than this against Liverpool if we want to get a result.

Here are my ratings:

Ospina  5/10 | Error almost cost a goal in the first half and was flapping at crosses after the break.

Gabriel  6/10 | Got on with his job but still not convinced he’s a right-back. Would rather have seen Jenks or Debuchy.

Mustafi  6/10 | A professional performance. Didn’t put a foot wrong and marshalled the defence well.

Holding  6/10 | Looked a little nervy at times but kept things simple and did his bit against a hard working Sutton side.

Monreal  6.5/10 | Created the second goal and made a great headed clearance at the far stick to prevent a goal.

Elneny  5/10 | Made no real impact other than to send a shot in to someone’s back garden. Forced off at half time with a calf injury.

Xhaka  6/10 | Kept the ball moving through midfield but his game was stifled a little due to an early yellow.

Reine-Adelaide  4/10 | Anonymous and when he was on the ball he did nothing with it. Failed to take his chance to impress.

Iwobi  4/10 | Very poor performance again. Touch was awful and passing even worse. Needs to be dropped for a while as he’s badly out of form.

Walcott  7/10 | Neat finish to make it 2-0 and score his 100th for the club. Got in to a few dangerous positions.

Perez  7.5/10 | Another goal with a decent low finish and was probably our most dangerous player throughout. Not sure what he needs to do to get a run of games.

Subs:

Oxlade-Chamberlain  7/10 | Sparked some life in to the midfield. Great run almost led to a goal in the second half. Far more positive than Elneny.

Maitland-Niles  6/10 | A few nice touches from the youngster.

Sanchez  6/10 | No idea why Wenger risked him for the final 15 minutes on a 3G pitch.
