[Ratings] Southampton 0-5 Arsenal: Welbeck & Walcott unplayable

By on January 28, 2017

Danny Welbeck made a dream comeback as he scored twice during Arsenal’s 5-0 thrashing of Southampton in the FA Cup tonight but Theo Walcott will grab the headlines after helping himself to a hat-trick.

Here are my ratings:

Ospina  6/10 | Very little to do in terms of shot-stopping but made some decent claims from crosses.

Bellerin  6/10 | Looked a little rusty on his return to the team but was still heavily involved down the right wing.

Mustafi  7/10 | Missed a great chance to get on the scoresheet but gave nothing away at the back.

Holding  7/10 | A very tidy performance from the young defender. Didn’t put a foot wrong and I think he’s got the potential to be a star.

Gibbs  6/10 | Gave away possession a few times but was always keen to get involved going forward.

Oxlade-Chamberlain  8/10 | Superb performance in the middle of the park. Showed off his passing range with a number of stunning long-range balls, including one for Welbeck’s second goal.

Maitland-Niles  7/10 | Very encouraging display. Did the simple stuff in the holding role and battled well.

Walcott  9/10 | Helped himself to a hat-trick against his old club with three cool finishes. A great weapon to have back from injury.

Reine-Adelaide  7/10 | Won’t grab the headlines but was quietly impressive. Didn’t look out of place with the big boys.

Lucas  8/10 | Lovely assist for Welbeck’s first and played a key pass in the build up to the third. Should have got a well deserved goal at the end. Excellent all round game.

Welbeck  9/10 | Dat Guy! What a comeback. Superb finish for the opening goal and wonderful touch/finish for his second. Turned provider to assist Walcott’s first goal. Great to have him back and let’s hope he stays fit!

Subs:

Sanchez 7.5/10 | Only on for 30 minutes but got two assists to help Theo secure his hat-trick.

Iwobi 6/10 | Moved the ball about well.
