Wenger confirms duo could leave Arsenal this month

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Carl Jenkinson and Mathieu Debuchy could leave Arsenal before the close of the January transfer window.

Jenkinson fulfilled his dream after joining Arsenal from Charlton in 2011 with the right-back jumping at the chance to join his boyhood club.

The 24-year-old developed well during two loan spells at West Ham before being forced to return to the club following a serious knee injury last season.

Carl was then given a chance to break in to the first team at Arsenal when Hector Bellerin was ruled out last November but unfortunately Jenkinson struggled during games against Manchester United and Southampton.

The crowd turned on him and Wenger admitted he had to drop the full-back from the squad as his confidence had been shattered and it looks as though his Arsenal career is now coming to a sad end.

Speaking at his press conference this morning, Wenger confirmed that Jenks could leave the club over the next few days with a move to Crystal Palace on the cards.

Arsene is quoted as saying by talkSPORT:

“With Carl there is a possibility he could move in the next few days,”

“To Palace? You look well informed! But I can’t say much more as we are not yet at a conclusion.”

Jenkinson may not be the only right-back on his way out the club as Wenger went on to confirm that there is also a chance Debuchy will leave before the end of the month.

On Debuchy, Wenger said:

“The door is not definitely closed, but it depends on the quality of opportunities he has.”

Debuchy has struggled to regain his best form since serious injury hampered the early stages of his Arsenal career following his move from Newcastle in 2014 and in total he’s only managed to make 13 Premier League appearances in over two-and-a-half years.

So it looks as though both Jenkinson and Debuchy could be on the move this month which would put a lot of pressure on Bellerin to stay fit. Gabriel now looks to be the Spaniard’s back-up at right-back with youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles also an option for the boss.
