Arsenal eyeing move for £50m goal-scoring sensation – report

By on January 6, 2017

According to a report in the Mirror, Arsenal want to sign Torino striker Andrea Belotti but have been told it will take £50m to land the talented goal-scorer this summer.

Belotti has been in excellent form for Torino since joining the club from Palermo in the summer of 2015 with the hitman netting an impressive 26 times in 54 appearances.

14 of those goals have come in this campaign alone as Belotti has out-scored many of his more illustrious rivals in Serie A this season and understandably his form hasn’t gone unnoticed.

The Mirror are citing a report originating from the Sun that claims Arsene Wenger has identified the 23-year-old as a potential new recruit as the boss looks to find a long-term replacement for Olivier Giroud.

However, the newspaper says that Wenger has been forced to put his pursuit on hold after being told by Torino that it will take £50m to land the striker – which would represent a club record fee.

No doubt Belotti is a huge talent who’s tearing it up in Italy but there is no way Arsene will spend that kind of money on the striker so Torino are going to have to lower their asking price or we’ll look elsewhere.

There is also the question of whether Wenger will even be around in the summer to push ahead with any proposed move for Belotti as the boss’s current contract is up in June.

Would the board really let Wenger line-up a mega-money deal for a player when there is no guarantee he’ll be around to use him next season? I suppose we could just pull out of any deal if Wenger walks away but my point is that the sooner Arsene resolves his contract situation the quicker we can start to plan for Arsenal’s future.
