Forgotten striker Danny Welbeck continued to build on his match fitness in training today as the Arsenal squad prepared for our clash with Crystal Palace on New Year’s Day.

Welbeck has endured a nightmare two-and-a-half years with Arsenal since joining the club from Manchester United as he’s spent the majority of time on the treatment table.

First Danny suffered a serious injury to his left knee in April 2015 which kept him out for ten months but he was then cruelly ruled out again after sustaining another serious cartilage injury to his right knee against Manchester City back in May.

The 26-year-old has worked his way back to fitness and returned to full training with the rest of the squad last week and the club have now released photos of Welbeck enjoying himself out on the pitches at London Colney today.

Arsene Wenger has said he’ll be cautious with the striker due to the length of time he’s been out so Welbeck is expected to be given plenty of time to regain his full fitness before he’ll be thrown in to first team action.

However, it’s still great to see Danny back in training with the rest of the squad and hopefully he can get back playing again next month and make a real impact for us during the second half of the season.

Those players who started against West Brom on Monday didn’t take part in full training today but the rest of the squad was in action.
