Arsenal plotting move for world class attacker – report
According to the Telegraph, Arsenal have identified Marco Reus as the ideal replacement for Alexis Sanchez or Mesut Ozil should our star duo refuse to sign new contracts.
Both Ozil and Sanchez have less than 18 months left on their current deals and despite the best efforts of the club, we’ve so far we’ve been unable to agree terms over new extensions.
Obviously Arsenal are desperate to tie them down to long-term deals and the Telegraph claim that we’ve already put forward offers worth around £180,000-a-week but our star duo are looking for deals worth well in excess of £200,000-a-week.
With their future’s still in doubt, the newspaper says that Arsene Wenger is already lining-up potential replacements and has identified Borussia Dortmund playmaker Marco Reus as the ideal addition.
We’ve long been linked with the German international and the Telegraph suggest that we’d focus on luring him to the Emirates if Sanchez/Ozil make it clear they won’t sign new deals and we’re forced to cash in at the end of the season.
Wenger has indicated that the club would be willing to hold the pair to the final year of their contracts but that’s almost certainly a negotiating tactic as I highly doubt the board would be prepared to lose our two most valuable assets for nothing.
Clearly we all want Ozil and Sanchez to sign new deals but if one or both don’t, then we need a world class replacement lined-up and I think Reus would be perfect.
He’s capable of playing anywhere across the front three, including through the middle as a striker, so he’s more similar to Alexis than Mesut and we’d be able to offer him a big pay rise if he agreed to join Arsenal.
However, while all this talk of signing Reus as a replacement for Sanchez/Ozil is great, we should really be concentrating on signing him to play WITH our key duo! An Arsenal attack consisting of Reus, Ozil and Sanchez would be a match for almost any club in world football.
So I personally think Arsenal should be doing all they can to get Ozil and Sanchez to sign on the dotted line and then bring Reus in next summer to play with them!
