Arsenal star surprisingly named in squad for Reading clash
Aaron Ramsey is a surprise inclusion in tonight’s squad for Arsenal’s EFL Cup clash with Reading at the Emirates, according to the Mirror.
Ramsey has been on the sidelines for 10 weeks after struggling to overcome a hamstring injury that he sustained against Liverpool on the opening weekend of the season.
After suffering several setbacks in his recovery, the Welsh international finally returned to full training last week as he closed in on making his long-awaited comeback.
Arsene Wenger told Arsenal.com on Monday that Ramsey was still short of fitness to be considered for tonight’s League Cup last16 tie with Reading.
However, the Mirror are reporting today that the 25-year-old has been surprisingly included in the squad and could now make his first appearance in over ten weeks.
The newspaper says that Ramsey is expected to be on the bench along with Olivier Giroud – who’s also back after recovering from a toe injury that’s kept him out for six weeks.
So it looks as though Ramsey did enough in training yesterday to convince Wenger that he was ready for action. Let’s just hope we haven’t rushed him back too soon as it would be a big blow if he was to aggravate his old injury.
The boss is expected to make wholesale changes to the team that drew with Middlesbrough at the weekend – check out our match preview with predicted line-up here.
