Why Arsenal would be crazy not to complete this £20m signing
Arsenal are one of several clubs who are cashing Leicester City midfielder N’Golo Kante and I think Arsene Wenger should do everything he can to bring the French international to the Emirates this summer.
Kante has become one of the most sought after players in Europe after enjoying a sensational debut season at Leicester following his £5.6m move from Caen last summer.
The 25-year-old’s breathless performances in the middle of the park have been a key factor in the Foxes unbelievable form this season as they look set to secure the Premier League title at Arsenal’s expense.
The Daily Mail claim that Arsenal have joined the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham in the race for his signature after it emerged that Kante has a £20m buy-out clause written in to his contract – which expires in 2019.
At that price, it’s an absolute steal in today’s over-inflated market and I think Wenger should do all he can to bring the French international to North London this summer.
While a centre-back and top class striker should be priorities this summer, we also need to strengthen in midfield as we’re set to lose Arteta and Flamini when their contract expire in June, and Kante is the ideal man for the job.
He now has experience of playing in the Premier League and has taken to life in England like a duck to water, with the midfielder rightly named on the six-man short list for the PFA Player of the Year.
Kante makes more tackles and interceptions than any other midfielder in the league and he doesn’t give the opposition a minute’s rest, and that’s exactly the type of player we need marshalling our midfield next season.
Mohamed Elneny has settled in well since joining in January but so far he’s been used in more of a box-to-box role so if Kante does arrive, he’ll be battling with Coquelin for the holding position.
Francis has been excellent since forcing his way in to the side 18 months ago but he’s had his injury problems and let’s face it, we need healthy competition in every position if we want to be challenging for top honours.
Leicester are obviously wanting to keep hold of Kante but if this talk of a buy out clause is accurate then he’s highly unlikely to stay beyond the summer. The Foxes just aren’t capable of offering the kind of wages we can and as great a story as this season has been for them, I think we all know it’s a one off and they’ll be found out next season.
Kante should take this opportunity to get a big move while his stock is high and he’s already hinted in the media that he’ll consider his future this summer – I pray Arsenal are the one’s who win the race for his signature.
