Elneny & Campbell Out: The Arsenal XI That Should Face Southampton
Arsenal desperately need a win when we entertain Southampton at the Emirates on Tuesday night….this is the team I’d like to see Arsene Wenger go with.
Goalkeeper: Cech
Petr Cech should certainly be recalled to the starting eleven after being rested against Burnley.
Defence: Bellerin, Gabriel, Koscielny, Monreal
Hector Bellerin will come back in at right-back despite Calum Chambers scoring a superb goal at the weekend while Kieran Gibbs didn’t do enough to oust Nacho Monreal from the left-back spot.
Per Mertesacker is available after serving his one-game ban but I’d like to see Gabriel keep his place alongside Laurent Koscielny. I’m tired of seeing Per’s lack of pace get exposed and Southampton have dangerous players like Mane and Long who’ll target the German again, just as they did at St Mary’s a few weeks ago.
Midfield: Coquelin, Ramsey
Mohamed Elneny made an impressive debut at the weekend but Aaron Ramsey should obviously be recalled in midfield. Francis Coquelin made a successful comeback from a two month injury absence so I hope the boss keeps him in the side rather than recall Mathieu Flamini.
Attack: Walcott, Ozil, Sanchez
Sanchez made his first start in over two months on Saturday and was straight back to his best with an excellent display capped off with a winning goal. He was taken off with 20 minutes to go so there’s no reason he shouldn’t be fine to start again tomorrow.
Mesut Ozil will obviously be recalled after being rested against Burnley and I’d go with Theo Walcott over Joel Campbell in the final attacking spot. Campbell has done extremely well recently but Theo is more of a threat and he’ll be playing against his former side, which usually gets an extra 10% out of a player.
Striker: Giroud
Giroud was poor at the weekend so hopefully the Frenchman can get back to form tomorrow night. We’ll need him to work hard and hold the ball up, and he should get plenty of service with Ozil and Sanchez in the team.
This would be my line-up:
What do you think? What team would you go with?
