Arsenal star could make injury comeback against Burnley
According to Evening Standard journalist James Olly, Danny Welbeck could be in contention to make his comeback from injury against Burnley next weekend.
Welbeck has been on the sidelines since suffering what was initially thought to be a minor knee injury during our 0-0 draw with Chelsea way back in April of last year.
The injury turned out to be far more serious than first thought and Danny was eventually forced to undergo surgery in September after struggling to overcome the problem throughout the summer.
Welbeck is now ready to step up his return with Arsene Wenger confirming at his press conference on Thursday that the attacker is set to resume full first team training next week.
There was no indication from the boss as to how many weeks it would be until Welbeck would be considered as fit enough to make his first team comeback but I assumed he’d need to get at least 2-3 weeks under his belt.
However, James Olly suggests that the 25-year-old could be set for a swift return with the journalist claiming that next weekend’s FA Cup tie with Burnley is the ideal opportunity for Wenger to give him some minutes, probably from the bench.
During a Q&A in the Evening Standard, Olly said:
If things progress very well, he [Welbeck] could play some part against Burnley in the FA Cup.
Seems an obvious opportunity to give him a run out, probably from the bench, but they will monitor him closely and it could be early Feb before we see him in action again
Hmmm. Personally I’d be surprised if Arsene decided to throw Welbeck into action after just a week of full training after he’s been out for over eight months, but I suppose the Burnley game is a good opportunity to test his fitness.
We’ll have to wait and see on that one but it’s just great to see Welbeck, Coquelin, Rosicky and Sanchez all back in training and on the verge of making their first team returns.
