Midfielder to undergo Arsenal medical after agreeing personal terms
It looks like we’re on the verge of wrapping-up a deal for Mohamed Elneny with reports today suggesting he is set to undergo his medical after agreeing personal terms.
The Mirror reported on Saturday that Arsenal had agreed a fee believed to be in the region of £5m with FC Basel for Elneny after Arsene Wenger had supposedly identified him as a key target this winter.
It appears things are developing quickly as the Metro are citing reports coming from the players homeland that suggest personal terms have now been agreed with the 23-year-old.
According to the report, Elneny is now expected to undergo his medical on Tuesday before officially becoming an Arsenal player later this week.
We’ll have to wait and see how much truth there is behind all of this but Arsene didn’t exactly dampen the speculation when asked about his interest in the player last night after saying there is nothing concrete to report ‘at the moment’.
Elneny is a full Egyptian international who is predominantly a defensive midfielder but can also play in a more box-to-box role if needed, so he should be a useful member of the squad if he does complete a move to the Emirates.
He’s also eligible to play in the Champions League, which will be a real bonus, and at around £5m he certainly won’t break the bank.
The feeling is Elneny will eventually replace Flamini when he leaves in the summer and Arsene will also look to bring in another more established name such as Wanyama at the end of the season to replace Arteta – who’s expected to move in to a coaching role.
