Reports – Guardiola a fan of Arsenal & could replace Wenger

According to the Daily Mail, Pep Guardiola has emerged as a shock contender to become Arsene Wenger’s successor and could take another year out to wait for the Arsenal job.

Guardiola is currently in charge at Bayern Munich but is being tipped to leave the German giants at the end of the season after a hugely successful three years at the Allianz Arena.

Manchester City are favourites to lure the Spaniard to the Premier League this summer while Manchester United have also been touted as a possible destination if they finally decide to ditch Louis van Gaal.

The papers today have also been linking him with Chelsea following Jose Mourinho’s departure but it’s understood Guardiola is reluctant to go to Stamford Bridge due to the lack of job security at the club.

However, one club where he’s sure to get time to build his own team is Arsenal, and the Daily Mail are reporting that we’re on Guardiola’s short-list of clubs he’s interested in joining when he leaves Bayern.

The newspaper claims that the former Barcelona boss is a huge fan of our style of football and would be attracted to moving to North London, but the main problem is Arsene still has 18 months left on his current contract and is showing no sign that he’s ready to pack it in a year early and leave the Emirates this summer.

However, the Mail suggest that Guardiola could be prepared to take another year sabbatical or even remain at Bayern for another season in order to wait for the chance to take over from Wenger in 2017.

The 44-year-old is expected to announce his plans at some point next week. That’s  not to say he’ll confirm who his next club will be if he decides to leave Munich, but he is set to reveal whether he’ll be staying on at the Allianz for another year or leaving when his contract expires in June.

His decision could give us an insight into whether he’s serious about wanting to manage Arsenal, as if he does stay with Bayern for 12 more months then his contract expiration date would coincide with Wenger’s at Arsenal paving the way for a possible move to the Emirates.

However, I’d still be shocked if Pep was to take over from Arsene. Obviously it would be a dream scenario, but unfortunately I think we’ll see Guardiola take over at City this summer.

That’s only my opinion and hopefully I’m wrong, as it would be sensational to see him come to the Emirates in 2017.
