Injury update on Sanchez, Cazorla, Walcott, Gibbs & Koscielny
Arsenal have received mixed injury news regarding the fitness of Alexis Sanchez, Laurent Koscielny, Santi Cazorla, Kieran Gibbs and Theo Walcott.
Sanchez limped out of our draw at Norwich at the weekend after picking up a hamstring injury – which led to severe criticism of Arsene Wenger after he risked the Chile star knowing he was carrying a knock.
Cazorla managed to get through the entire game but was also in the wars as he suffered a knee issue that got progressively worse as the match wore on.
Both players have now undergone initial checks and according to the Mirror, the duo are now set for a spell on the sidelines.
The paper claims that Sanchez will miss at least three weeks after pulling his hamstring while Cazorla is also crocked with the club fearing he’s damaged ligaments.
Further scans will be done on Tuesday but if the initial diagnosis are accurate, the pair will miss some important Premier League fixtures but they’ll also sit out our crunch Champions League trip to Olympiakos next week.
Obviously this is a major blow as Cazorla and Sanchez are two of our key players. The task in Greece just got a lot harder but I fear our title challenge will also take a huge hit following these latest injuries.
In a further blow, the Mirror suggest that Walcott is also losing his race to be fit to face Olympiakos as he’s still not returned to full training yet.
Arsene claimed last week that Theo could be back for the trip to Greece but it appears he’s set to join the likes of Wilshere, Welbeck, Rosicky and Coquelin – as well as Sanchez and Cazorla – in missing our European showdown.
However, there is some more positive news as the Mirror claim that Koscielny and Gibbs could be back in action against Sunderland this weekend.
Koscielny was also forced off in the first half at Carrow Road with a hip problem while Gibbsy has a calf injury but the defensive duo are expected to return to full training by the end of the week.
Arsenal’s injury problems refuse to go away and unfortunately until we find a solution, I fear we’ll never be able to mount a sustained title challenge.
