Arsenal handed fresh injury blow ahead of Man Utd clash
The injury gods have struck once again as Laurent Koscielny is set to miss Arsenal’s huge clash with Manchester United this weekend after picking up a hamstring injury.
Koscielny limped off clutching the back of his leg shortly after half-time during our 3-2 defeat to Olympiakos last night having seemingly hurt his hamstring while making a sliding tackle.
Arsene Wenger confirmed after the match that the 30-year-old has suffered a hamstring injury so he’s now a major doubt to take on Man Utd when they come to the Emirates on Sunday afternoon.
The boss has understandably been heavily criticised for resting Cech and Ospina last night but he tried to use the Koscielny injury as an example of why he chose to rotate his team.
When asked for an update on Koscielny, Wenger told Arsenal.com:
It is a hamstring. This is why I rotate as we play many games. The other teams do it as well. You look at the other teams in Europe’s benches and you will see them rotate. You cannot play every three days without rotating your players That is a fact and you have to accept that.
So, barring a miracle recovery, it looks like Koscielny will miss the United game which is a huge blow as he’ll be a big miss against the Premier League leaders.
Mertesacker will no doubt start alongside Gabriel but our defence just isn’t the same without Koscielny and his pace at the back.
Fingers crossed he won’t be out too long or we could be in even more trouble….
