Wenger Confirms Injury Blow As Key Man Ruled Out Of Tottenham Game

Arsenal have been hit by a major injury blow ahead of our game with Tottenham as Arsene Wenger has confirmed Francis Coquelin will miss the League Cup clash.

Coquelin picked up the injury during our frustrating 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday afternoon after appearing to over extend his knee while landing on the floor.

The midfielder was able to carry on until half time but it was obviously too painful as he failed to appear after the break and was replaced by Calum Chambers.

Coquelin is now facing a spell on the sidelines with Wenger confirming to reporters after the game that he won’t make Wednesday’s trip to White Hart Lane – although he’s not sure yet how long the player will be out for.

When quizzed for an update on Coquelin, Arsene told the Mirror.

“It is a little knee injury, ” said Wenger. “I don’t know how long it will be – certainly not for midweek. I don’t know yet how long.”

It’s comforting that Arsene describes it as a ‘little’ knee injury. However, I’m sure that’s precisely how he described Danny Welbeck’s knee injury back in April and he’s going to be out for over eight months!

Coquelin being ruled out on Wednesday poses us with a huge problem as we have very few defensive midfield option to call upon.

We saw against Dinamo Zagreb that Mikel Arteta just isn’t up to the task of playing in big games anymore so I fail to see how he’ll be able to cope with an intense North London Derby – even if it is in the League Cup.

Francis will be joined on the sidelines by Gabriel and Santi Cazorla following their dismissals today but it’s the loss of Le Coq that’s really worrying.

Let’s hope Coqulein’s injury isn’t serious as we’re in real trouble if he’s ruled out for any length of time….

We’d be lucky indeed if Coquelin is out only for the mid-week game. If it goes beyond that (as is typical of Arsenal injuries),then we’d have Arteta and Flamini as back-ups because Wenger did not find any one better to buy.
As a Wenger admirer, I’d be gutted if the man should leave Arsenal with a whimper after all he has done for the club. But he seems to be working very hard to ensure that is the case. Pity.

Don’t be surprised the FA doesn’t take any action against Cosa.
The old farts will say Dean did not mention it in his report.
Btw,the FA shd take severe action Dean. Another blundering mo has
made his action s decisive in deciding the outcome of a match.
The FA rsks its credibility being thrown in doubt if it doesn’t
    discipline Dean.

I am a Spurs season ticket holder and hate your lot. Its my default setting and inherent. But I had to post on here regarding that sub-human cretin Costa. A better ref would have seen and dealt with him after he swiped Koscelny. Straight red. He should have booked him for the card-waving earlier. He could have booked him for the chestbump and scratch on Gabtiels neck, booked him again for
dissent and the push on Gabriel after the one actual booking. Oh….and another for the off-the-ball by the corner flag on Oxlade Chamberpot. And thats only from what I saw on the highlights! He is a disgrace. So is Dean……always has been a poor ref in big games. He isnt anti-Woolwich…..he’s simply crap. He had to send Gabriel off…..having booked him already, he had no choice when Gabriel backheeled Costa although I’d have been tempted in Gabriels situation to have broken his nose with my elbow. Might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb. Cazorlas second booking was also incorrect. There was no intent and no violence……he’s a pussy after all. So hard luck with the reffing this time. Dont worry….you’ll get the benefit on Wednesday no doubt and I’ll be the one moaning. P.s. play arteta….please play arteta.

Fair play Gary, couldn´t have agreed more. And of course no one wants to see Arteta play…I don´t even think he wants to be out there. I imagine with the lad Son running rampant he´ll be on his first yellow by the 15th minute.

      Dare i even mention Kane…

We have got to get someone else in there…I would rather see Chambers there.

Wenger is so stourbbn that he fails to buy player in that position. This is a shame. We know it will all come and may be he given red card for up to 3 matches ban. Wenger failed activate money in those areas . Wenger know football more any other on the planet

Bpnaroca:- Costa is nothing but a disgrace to the game and he for sure is not a footballer, but the worse of the whole lot is Referee Dean and his linesman who should have put up his flag because this incident happened right in front facing the penalty area.
Costa, Dean and his linesman should be given a long suspension because the
player started the whole brawl and the officials because of their incompetence
in handling this well behaved first half match.
