Confirmed: Arsenal star ruled out for 3 months
It’s been another sorry day on the injury front at Arsenal Football Club after it was confirmed that Jack Wilshere will undergo surgery and is set to miss the next three months.
The midfielder is yet to feature this season after suffering a hairline fracture to his left fibula just before the Community Shield at the start of August.
News emerged on Monday that Jack may have to undergo the knife as the injury hasn’t been healing as quickly as hoped with Arsene Wenger confirming he’d suffered a ‘little setback’.
Having seen a specialist, the club confirmed today that the decision has been taken to operate and insert a metal plate in his leg in order to try and cure the problem once and for all.
The surgery will be undertaken over the coming days and Jack is expected to be out for around three months, meaning he won’t return until Christmas.
A statement on Arsenal.com said:
Due to a slow healing response from a fracture suffered in August, the club can confirm that Jack Wilshere is to undergo an operation to his left fibula.
The decision to intervene has been taken quickly after regular reviews by specialists, who feel that Jack’s scans show that the healing process is not progressing as well as expected.
Jack will have surgery in London in the forthcoming days. This will involve inserting a small plate in his left fibula. Jack is likely to be out for approximately three months.
Everyone at the club wishes Jack well with his rehabilitation.
This is a devastating blow for the club but you really have to feel for Wilshere. His career has been blighted by a succession of injuries and this was seen as a key season in his development.
He’s now set to miss the entire first half of the campaign and that’s assuming he won’t suffer any complications or setbacks, and he hasn’t exactly got a great record on that front.
Let’s hope he can make a swift recovery and get his career going as it’s becoming ridiculous now. We simply can’t keep having him miss endless games due to injury.
It’s no good for Arsenal and it’s no good for Jack’s mental state either….
