Arsenal eyeing January move for €13.7m striker – report
It looks like Arsene Wenger is already thinking ahead to January as the Express are reporting that Arsenal have joined the race for FC Basel striker Breel Embolo.
The 18-year-old has become one of the hottest young properties in European football after scoring 17 goals during his debut season with Basel having broken into the first team last term.
His impressive form has led to interest from several top clubs [and Tottenham] and it looks like Arsenal have now joined the race for his signature as the Express claim that Arsene Wenger is showing a keen interest in the Swiss striker ahead of a potential swoop this January.
Embolo already has 3 goals to his name so far this season and came off the bench against England last night to make his third appearance for the Swiss national team, so his stock is going to increase steadily over the coming months.
The Express suggest Basel currently rate the youngster at €13.7m (£10m) but that could easily rise significantly if Embolo continues to impress in the lead up to the winter window.
Obviously he’s not a big-name signing like Benzema or Cavani and I still think we need a striker of that quality if we want to be a genuine threat for top trophies, but that’s not to say we shouldn’t also be looking to take a gamble on someone like Embolo.
He wouldn’t be a first team regular and is still young so has plenty of time to develop further, so I wouldn’t mind Arsene taking a punt on him as long as we also look to bring in a world class hitman.
