Spanish Giants Eye Swoop For Arsenal Star – Reports
Reports are resurfacing suggesting that Atletico Madrid are eyeing a swoop on Arsenal for key playmaker Santi Cazorla this summer.
Cazorla has been linked with a move to Atletico over the past two transfer windows and it was claimed that Diego Simeone made a serious move for our diminutive attacker last summer.
We managed to keep hold of Santi on that occasion but it looks like we’ll have to see-off interest from the Spaniard’s once again this summer as the Metro are citing a report from AS who claim that Atletico are lining-up a fresh approach.
With Arda Turan set for a move, Simeone needs to bring in a replacement and the Spanish newspaper suggests he has Cazorla down on his list of targets. This should come as no surprise, but worryingly the paper claims that Santi would be open to the idea of returning to his homeland.
The chances are the paper are just making bold assumptions and have no evidence that Cazorla wants to head back to Spain, as the player has shown no signs he’s unsettled at Arsenal. Quite the opposite in fact.
However, even if he is open to leaving then the move is still unlikely as AS suggest that Atletico won’t pay a sizeable fee for him because he’s the wrong side of 30.
I don’t think there’s any chance Arsene Wenger will sell Cazorla on the cheap as he’s a key part of our starting eleven, so thankfully I don’t see anything coming of this.
I think Santi will stay at the Emirates for at least one more year before heading back to Spain to finish him career. Hopefully he can sign off with a Premier League winners medal!
