Arsenal Plotting £51m Triple Swoop – Reports
According to reports, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is plotting a £51m triple swoop for Morgan Schneiderlin, Loic Perrin and William Carvalho this month.
The boss is in the market for a new centre-back and Perrin has emerged as a realistic target in recent days with reports suggesting we’re in talks with Saint-Etienne over a potential £6m deal.
An agreement is understood to be close and the 29-year-old would come in and offer vital experienced cover for Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny at the back.
We’re also likely to bring in a defensive midfielder and the Metro actually claim that we’re going to try to bring in TWO this month.
Morgan Schneiderlin and William Carvalho have both been on Arsene’s radar for some time and the newspaper seems to think we’re trying to bring both players to the club over the coming weeks.
An apparent deal for Carvalho will cost in the region of £20m, while Schneiderlin will set us back around £25m, with the duo seen as long-term replacements for Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini.
What to make of these reports?
Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Perrin arrive but I’d be shocked if either Schneiderlin or Carvalho were signed this month, and I’ll eat my hat if we land BOTH of them.
Southampton are going to do all they can to hang on to Schneiderlin and the midfielder has all-but confirmed he’ll stay at St Mary’s until the summer – at which point I hope we go all-out to sign him. But a deal in January? Not likely.
The same can be said for Carvalho. He’s probably more attainable than Schneiderlin now that Sporting Lisbon crashed out of the Champions League but the same complications over his ownership still exist today as they did in the summer, so I don’t see us pushing ahead with that deal this month either.
As is stands, Loic Perrin and Krystian Bielik seem the most likely to arrive over the coming days….
