Arsenal WILL Make Move For ‘Contract Rebel’ In January
The January transfer window is almost upon us and reports today are claiming that Arsenal will make a move for West Ham defender Winston Reid.
Arsene Wenger is on the look out for another centre-back after failing to bring in an adequate replacement for Thomas Vermaelen in the summer.
Several names have been linked in recent weeks but the Mirror claim that the boss has set his sights on Reid and will try and tempt the Hammers into cashing in next month.
Reid is in the final year of his contract and has so far failed to agree terms over an extension, so West Ham are set to lose him for nothing in just six months time.
The papers believe the 26-year-old is demanding around £60,000-a-week plus a £1m signing on bonus, and while West Ham are refusing to match those figures, it shouldn’t be a problem for a club like Arsenal.
It’s understood that Wenger has had his scouts watch Reid in every game over the past two months and is now convinced he’s the man to compete with Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny at the back.
A fee in the region of £6m has been mooted and that kind of money could tempt West Ham. The only problem is they have enjoyed a fantastic season so far, despite losing to us yesterday, and are in the mix for European qualification, so Sam Allardyce will be desperate to hold on to him.
With Koscielny’s Achilles still giving him trouble, a centre-back is a must in January and Reid would be a sensible option. I don’t think he’s good enough to warrant a regular first team place but he’d be a useful back-up option and is already accustomed to the Premier League.

Wow a move to being a reserve, that’s ambition for you but probably his only alternative now.
