Arsenal Hit By Yet Another Injury Blow + Positive Walcott Update

By on December 15, 2014

Alex-OxladeChamberlain-Arsenal

The injury list just keeps on growing as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has become the latest player to pick up a knock.

The Ox played almost the entire ninety minutes against Newcastle on Saturday before being replaced with just minutes to go during our 4-1 victory.

There wasn’t any sign of an injury at the time but Arsene Wenger has now revealed that the 21-year-old picked up a groin problem.

It turns out that The Ox first felt the injury against Galatasaray last week and aggravated it even further on Saturday.

He’ll have an injection to try and reduce the inflammation and was set to undergo further tests this afternoon, but as of now he’s considered as a doubt to face Liverpool on Sunday.

Wenger said on Oxlade-Chamberlain:

“He got a knock. He’s got a pain in his groin. I took him off quickly. I wanted to take him off, and then he takes the ball and crosses the whole pitch and [after that piece of action] he cannot run anymore.

“We cannot afford to lose him at the moment. I hope it’s nothing bad. He had a little bit of inflammation before the game. I took him to Galatasaray and maybe two games [in five days] was a lot for him.” Wenger is quoted as saying by the Mirror

We’ll have to keep everything crossed that the injury isn’t serious as we simply can not afford to lose another midfielder with Jack, Rambo and Arteta already out.

If Chamberlain joins them on the sidelines, I really don’t know what Arsene will do against Liverpool. We’ll either have to play Coquelin, Flamini and Cazorla in the middle or maybe bring in Rosicky if he’s fit.

There was some positive news as the Mirror claim that Theo Walcott is expected to return to the squad after recovering from a groin injury, but I doubt we’ll see him start. A 20 minute cameo is the best we can hope for but he’ll be a useful weapon to have on the bench.
