Wenger Offers Walcott & Debuchy Update + Two Fresh Injury Concerns
Arsene Wenger has given an update on the fitness of Theo Walcott and Mathieu Debuchy while also revealing that Tomas Rosicky and Yaya Sanogo have picked up fresh injuries.
Speaking to the press ahead of Arsenal clash with Stoke tomorrow, Arsene confirmed that Theo will once again miss out with a groin injury and he isn’t expected to feature against Galatasaray on Tuesday either.
Debuchy will also not make the trip to the Britannia this weekend but could be back in the squad for our Champions League clash against the Turks next week after returning to full training following 3 months out with an ankle injury.
Unfortunately, Rosicky is a doubt to face Stoke after picking up a fresh thigh injury and Sanogo could also be ruled out with a calf problem just days after returning from a hamstring strain.
There was some positive injury news as Wojciech Szczesny is back in training and could return to the squad tomorrow – although it will be interesting to see if he comes straight back in for Martinez as the youngster has done extremely well in recent games.
Wenger told Arsenal’s website:
team news….
We might also lose Tomas Rosicky for a thigh problem and Yaya Sanogo for a calf problem.
on Wojciech Szczesny and Mathieu Debuchy…
Szczesny will be back today in full training. I don’t know if he will be completely available or not yet. Debuchy is also back in training but it’s too early for him. The earliest he could be available is maybe on Tuesday. I don’t know whether I will take him yet because we are short number wise.
on Walcott’s availability…
Walcott is still struggling with his groin inflammation. I think he has an injection today to take care of that. Hopefully he can be available again after that. Galatasaray will be too early for him.
As we reported earlier, Monreal is out and Gibbs and Koscileny will be assessed this afternoon. Depending on how the various tests go, we could be without as many as 12 first team squad players tomorrow.
Walcott, Wilshere, Ozil, Ospina, Arteta, Monreal and Debuchy are definitely out, while Koscileny, Gibbs, Rosicky, Szczesny and Sanogo all face late fitness tests. That’s one hell of an injury list for any club to contend with.
I’d genuinely be keen to see how the likes of Chelsea would cope with so many players either injured or not 100% fit. I have a feeling they may not be running away with the title quiet so much, but it’s credit to them for keeping their players fit I suppose.
Let’s hope we can come through this next week with two positive results against Stoke and Gala and we should have a few players back for the Newcastle game next Saturday.
