Arsenal ‘Set To Sign €40m Striker In January’ – Reports
As we prepare for tonight’s clash with Southampton, I thought I’d bring you some transfer news that caught my eye with reports today claiming that Arsenal are set to sign €40m-rated striker Paulo Dybala in January.
We’ve been strongly linked with the 21-year-old in recent weeks with widespread speculation suggesting that Arsene Wenger and his team of scouts have been left impressed by his displays this season, with Dybala enjoying a breakthrough year that’s seen him score 9 goals for Palermo so far.
The Italian clubs president, Maurizio Zamparini, recently claimed that Dybala would be better than Messi, Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic within two years and insisted it would take a fee of €40m (£31m) for them to cash in.
“Within two years, he’s going to be better than Cristiano Ronaldo, [Lionel] Messi and [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic.”
“It would take €40m (£31m) to take him away from us. He’s the best striker in Serie A.” Zamparini is quoted as saying
The Express claimed over the weekend that Arsenal had opened talks with Palermo over Dybala’s signature and had agreed to match this valuation to sign the highly-rated striker in the summer.
However, now the newspaper are reporting that the move will be brought forward to January because Palermo are set to sign Racing Club forward Facundo Castro as his replacement.
It’s difficult to know how much truth there is in these reports as the speculation is intensifying with January just around the corner, but I’d be HUGELY surprised if anything happened this winter.
A striker is probably the last position we need to strengthen right now and with the squad desperately needing reinforcements in midfielder and defence, I’d expect Arsene to concentrate his efforts on adding to those two areas before he splashes out €40m on a young striker.
