Team News: Wenger: ‘Midfielder Returns But Quartet Miss Spurs Test’
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has given Arsenal.com a team news update ahead of Saturday’s north London derby against Tottenham.
The boss has confirmed that midfielder Mathieu Flamini should return to the squad after missing the games against Aston Villa and Southampton with a dead leg.
It will be good to have another option available in midfield but I think we’ll see Flamini among the subs with Mikel Arteta likely to be selected ahead of the Frenchman.
Arsene also revealed that Nacho Monreal will once again miss the game after failing to recover from a back injury that’s seen him miss that last three games. Kieran Gibbs was rested for Tuesday’s defeat to Southampton to he will come in at left-back on Saturday.
Although the Spurs game had initially been pencilled in as a potential comeback date, Theo Walcott has yet to return to full training so he’s still unavailable along with Mathieu Debuchy and Olivier Giroud – who are both not expected back until the New Year.
This is what Arsene told Arsenal.com:
on the team news…
The only difference compared to Villa and Southampton is that Mathieu Flamini might be available again. He had a dead leg. I feel he should be back.
on the rest of the squad…
Everyone else is similar to where they were. Monreal is not back yet. The likes of Giroud, Debuchy and Walcott are unavailable.
So it will be a similar squad to the one that faced Aston Villa and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Arsene name an unchanged side from the team that won 3-0 at Villa Park, but I’ll get my preferred line-up published later this afternoon…
