RATINGS: Arteta Exposed Again As Arsenal Slump In Dortmund

By on September 17, 2014

Mikel Arteta

We produced our worst performance of the season to deservedly lose 2-0 away to Borussia Dortmund last night, these are my ratings from the game:

Szczesny 6.5/10 – Made some excellent saves to keep it at 0-0 and could do little about the opener, but was certainly at fault for the second as he went walk-about.

Bellerin 6/10 – Thrown to the sharks on his debut. The youngster did alright but was caught out of position a few too many times.

Mertesacker 6/10 – Caught out for the second and looked even slower than he usually does.

Koscielny 7/10 – Kept us in it for the opening half hour as he made several vital interceptions but will know he should have done much more to stop Immobile scoring.

Gibbs 6.5/10 – A definite improvement on Monreal at left-back. Did well to dig out a cross for Welbeck in the first half.

Arteta 4/10 – Badly exposed once again in a big game. How Arsene thinks that Arteta is the answer to our defensive midfield problem is beyond me. His lack of pace is a huge issue for the team and until we bring in a ‘proper’ holding midfielder, we’re not going to challenge for major honours.

Wilshere 6.5/10 – At least he showed some fight in midfield. Picked up another ankle injury though, so fingers crossed it isn’t serious.

Ramsey 5/10 – Very poor once again. Looks a million miles away from the all-action midfielder of last season. He doesn’t look 100% fit but I don’t think the 4-1-4-1 formation is suiting him either.

Sanchez 6/10 – Put a shift in again but was caught in possession too often.

Ozil 5/10 – Completely wasted out wide again. It’s no excuse for his lack of effort, but you don’t pay £42m for the best No.10 on the planet and play him wide. Unless your Arsene Wenger, of course.

Welbeck 6/10 – Could have had a hat-trick as he missed three glorious opportunities to score, including two when the score was at 0-0. I have a feeling we’re going to have to get used to seeing Welbeck miss a few chances this season.

Subs:

Oxlade-Chamberlain 6.5/10 – Made a superb last ditch tackle to prevent a goal.

Cazorla 6/10 – Little impact.

Podolski N/A

We need to put this game behind us quickly and bounce back at Aston Villa. It’s time Arsene swallows his pride and ditches the 4-1-4-1 and reverts back to the 4-2-3-1 of last season with Ozil in the middle. Yes it means dropping one of Ramsey or Wilshere but that’s what having a squad is all about.

We need to ditch the 4-5-1, go back to 4-2-3-1 and play Ozil centrally.

Wenger is the problem. He is clueless when it comes to rotation of players. He laments that we had a difficult game over the weekend, why not start with the likes of Carzola and other equally good players who never had a chance. Rosisky could do better than Rambo and Ozil at the moment. Campel also deserve also deserve a chance. I will not be surprised if the same players are fielded in the next outing over the weekend. Is there any reason why Wenger did not bring in a defensive midfielder?

Time to look at the midfield alternatives. Rosicky cazorla diaby coquelin campbell podolski chambers have to come into the reckoning. Plus Walcott as soon as he is fit.

Arteta and flamini look finished, ozil and ramsey are out of form, whilst wilshire could be out so give give him some rest ahead of the spurs game.

It has been clear for several years that Wenger’s dream does not work. The whole squad is seriously unbalanced and would take a great deal of reorganising. That won’t happen while Wenger is in charge (and taking no advice from anyone). And Wenger won’t be got rid of while Kroenke gets a good return on his investment. Bottom line ….. NO WAY OUT.

I can’t believe Wilshere is our core player, the no. 10. He is the most lazy player, off ball running is near none, and always stick at that place and wait for the ball coming. Did you guys see our mistakes at back, full-backs cannot find any way to pass the ball forward after Ramsey off, arteta and welshere are really a hell hole, just stick there and wait. WTF they are our midfielder, they should run more, even Ozil was doing better in last season, why should we change everything for Wilshere, we got many AMF replacement why should we change to 4141, we need Ramsey more I would say, more reasonable in passing, dribbling, creating, off ball running etc. and we should stick Ozil in mid!!

wenger has nothing to loose. he has wasted Arteta by using him to replace Song ,while knowing well that Arteta is attacking midfielder. Afterall wenger is not even serious.
If there can proper dm,then Ozil Ramsey…and even back line will shine.” SPECIALIST”wenger.

Our weaknesses were exposed last night,it was so embarrassing we need a tough tackling midfielder to add some steel. Our mid field were all absent without leave last night for so much of the game, when someone can run from his own half off the pitch and not one tackle attempted and score surely Arsene must take responsibility for such a poor team selection and tactics. The season is only started but for us loyal fans it seems we will have nothing to cheer again our season is as good as over.Anyone agree?

Wenger is to be blamed. He built arsenal sum 15yrs ago and it looks like he is on course to destroy the empire he built
