£30m Ace ‘Has Heart Set’ On Arsenal Move, Wenger To Bid In January
William Carvalho has his ‘heart set’ on a move to Arsenal as Arsene Wenger gets set to renew his interest in the £30m-rated midfielder when the window re-opens in January.
We were strongly linked with a move for Carvalho throughout the summer months and had at least one bid rejected, with Sporting Lisbon turning down our £20m offer back in July.
Arsene tried his luck again during the final stages of the summer window but was unable to agree a deal, with reports suggesting it was mainly due to the fact that an investment company owns 40% of the 22-year-old’s economic rights.
Carvalho has a buy-out clause worth £30m written into his contract, but Sporting were believed to have reduced their asking price to nearer £24m as they are desperate to sell to help ease their financial woes, but the investment company apparently complicated negotiations.
However, the Metro claim that we’ll resurrect our interest in January and suggest that Carvalho has a ‘heart set’ on a move to the Emirates, so hopefully he’ll be prepared to force a move this time around.
I was gutted we didn’t sign a defensive midfielder in the summer window so fingers crossed Arsene does renew his interest in Carvalho as he’d be an excellent addition.
With no centre-back signed either on Monday, we’re short in defence and Carvalho can play at centre-back as well if needed, so he’d be perfect to fill both roles and he’d give us a real powerful presence in the middle of the park.
