Arsenal Working On Deal To Sign £50m World Class Hitman
Some interesting reports coming out of Portugal today that claim Arsenal are still pushing hard to secure a deal for PSG striker Edinson Cavani.
Despite hinting he’s happy with his current crop of attackers, it’s widely reported that Arsene Wenger is still actively looking to bring in another striker before the transfer window closes on Monday night.
With Olivier Giroud out until the new year, it’s easy to see why fans and pundits feel we need another option up front, and it looks like the boss is eyeing an audacious move for Cavani.
Portuguese newspaper Record claims that Arsene is working on a deal to sign the Uruguayan international from PSG and if a move is agreed, he’ll then sell Joel Campbell to Benfica.
The Portuguese giants have apparently tabled a bid for Campbell but Wenger won’t sanction his sale until another forward is secured, and it appears Cavani is in his sights.
I personally think we’ll find it extremely difficult to persuade PSG to sell at this late stage, particularly now they’ve missed out on Angel Di Maria. Even if the Ligue 1 champions do agree to sell, it’s understood they will want in the region of £50m, and I have my doubts over whether Arsene would be willing to pay that kind of fee and match the wages Cavani would want.
So as exciting as this news is, I’m not convinced anything will come of it. In fact, I’d be surprised if we end up signing a striker at all before the window closes. Targets are thin on the ground and if we haven’t gone in for a bargain like Loic Remy, then I’m not sure we’ll see Arsene push the boat out for another forward this summer.
