Revealed: The Teams Arsenal Could Face In The Champions League Draw

By on August 28, 2014

The draw for the Champions League group stages takes place at 5pm this afternoon.

Thankfully Arsenal’s name will be in the hat for the 17th consecutive season thanks to a 1-0 win over Besiktas last night, after Alexis Sanchez scored the only goal of the two legs to book our place in the group stages.

Here are each of the four pots. Once again, thanks to our consistency in the competition, Arsenal are in Pot 1 so will avoid the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona, and remember, we can not face another English side at this stage.

Pot One: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Benfica, Atletico Madrid, ARSENAL, Porto

Pot Two: Schalke, Dortmund, Juventus, Paris St-Germain, Basel, Shakhtar Donetsk, Manchester City, Zenit

Pot Three: Bayer Leverkusen, Olympiakos, CSKA Moscow, Ajax, Liverpool, Sporting Lisbon, Galatasaray, Athletic Bilbao

Pot Four: Anderlecht, Roma, Apoel Nicosia, Bate Borisov, Ludogorets, Maribor, Monaco, Malmo

As always, we’ll be hoping for a favourable draw. Usually you’d assume that meant avoiding the ‘big’ teams but sometimes it’s actually better to play a slightly harder game if it meant a shorter journey. There’s nothing a manager hates more than a horrendous long-haul trip to Russia before a big Premier League game!

My ideal draw would be: Basel, Sporting Lisbon and Malmo. The nightmare draw would be PSG, Bilbao and Roma.

Can’t wait for the draw, who do you want to get?
