Wenger Confirms Gibbs Injury Blow + Sanogo Also Ruled Out
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Kieran Gibbs is facing three weeks on the sidelines while Yaya Sanogo has also picked up a hamstring problem.
The boss has been speaking to the press at his pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow night’s Champions League play off clash with Besiktas when he revealed the latest team news.
Gibbs was expected to miss the game tomorrow but Arsene has revealed the full-back will now be out for 2-3 weeks after being forced off with a hamstring injury against Crystal Palace on Saturday night.
Based on previous experience, we should expect this ‘three week’ lay off to turn into something closer to three months! Hopefully that wont be the case but it’s obviously a huge blow and Nacho Monreal is now going to have to cover at left-back.
Arsene also confirmed that striker Yaya Sanogo has not made the trip to Turkey after also feeling discomfort in his hamstring. It sounds like his injury is far less severe but he still won’t be available to face Besiktas.
The only good news is that Laurent Koscielny is fit and available for the game tomorrow. We’re only one game into the new season and already we’ve got two players out with hamstring injuries and Koscielny is having trouble with his Achilles. Not good. Let’s hope things improve quickly!
At Ataturk Stadium (eventually). Wenger: "Everybody who played on Sat is available. Gibbs has a hamstring injury & will be out for 2-3 wks."

Change by Wenger: "Sanogo stayed at home because he has a hamstring problem. He was not comfortable this morning…I forgot him!"
